FAQs
Have Questions? We’re Here to Help.
We understand that starting therapy can feel like a big step. Below are answers to some of the most common questions we receive. If your question isn’t listed here, feel free to contact us directly.
Do I need a referral to see a psychologist?
No referral is required to make an appointment. However, if you would like to claim a Medicare rebate, you will need a referral and Mental Health Care Plan from your GP or psychiatrist.
What services do you offer?
We provide individual counselling for children (6+), adolescents, and adults, as well as support for families and couples.
Our services include:
- Trauma and grief counselling
- EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing)
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
- Clinical Hypnotherapy
- Psycho-education
- Solution-Focused Therapy
- Supportive counselling and telehealth
What is EMDR?
EMDR is an evidence-based therapy designed to help people process and recover from trauma and distressing life experiences. It involves recalling distressing events while receiving bilateral stimulation, such as side-to-side eye movements, which helps to reprocess traumatic memories and reduce their emotional charge.
What is CBT?
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a structured, evidence-based therapy that helps people identify and challenge unhelpful thoughts and behaviours. It’s commonly used to treat anxiety, depression, and other emotional challenges.
What is Clinical Hypnotherapy?
Clinical Hypnotherapy involves guided relaxation to achieve a focused state of awareness. It can support behavioural change, reduce anxiety, and improve confidence, sleep, and emotional resilience. It’s often used in combination with other therapies.
What ages do you work with?
We support children from 6 years of age through to older adults. For younger children, we may refer you to a Child Psychologist with play therapy expertise if more appropriate.
Do you work with couples?
Some of our team members offer couples counselling. Please visit our Meet the Team page to see who offers this service.
Are sessions confidential?
Yes. All sessions are confidential and handled according to professional ethical guidelines. The only exceptions are situations involving risk of harm, legal obligations, or if your file is subpoenaed. We’ll explain this in your first session.
How long is each session?
A standard session lasts 50 minutes. Please arrive early to your first appointment to allow time for initial paperwork.
What if I need to cancel my appointment?
We ask for at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Late cancellations may incur a $50 fee (first instance) or the full session fee for repeated late changes. This fee is not eligible for a rebate.
How much does a session cost?
Standard sessions: range from $200 to $260
After-hours/Saturday sessions: may attract a higher fee
Late cancellation fee: $50 (first instance)
Fees for externally funded referrals (e.g., WorkCover) may vary. Concessions may be available—please discuss with us directly.
Fees are correct as of April 2025, please note they may change without notice.
Can I claim a Medicare rebate?
Yes, with a valid Mental Health Care Plan from your GP, you can receive a Medicare rebate for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. We can process Medicare claims directly after your session.
Do you accept private health insurance?
Yes. Rebates depend on your level of cover and insurer. Contact your provider to confirm eligibility and rebate amounts.
What if I’m not happy with my psychologist?
It’s important that you feel comfortable and supported. If you feel the fit isn’t right, we encourage open discussion. You’re also welcome to try another practitioner within our team.
